Teenager Struck, Killed by Vehicle While Jogging in Ponte Vedra, Florida

PONTE VEDRA, FL. – According to a news story reported online at pontevedrarecorder.com, a teenager was struck and killed by a vehicle while jogging in Ponte Vedra, Florida. The driver reportedly remained at the scene after the collision, and it is not yet clear whether he or she will face charges in connection with the accident.*

The collision occurred during the morning on A1A in Ponte Vedra. Florida Highway Patrol and the Ponte Vedra Recorder report that a pedestrian was jogging at about 6 a.m. inside the bike lane on A1A. Near the intersection with Gnarled Oaks Drive, by Mickler’s Landing, a 2012 Toyota Tundra traveled into the bike lane and struck the jogger.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear. The news report did not say why the Toyota driver left the lane of travel and drove into the bike lane. Investigators with Florida Highway Patrol reported that the driver, who was not identified, was not under the influence and stopped and remained at the scene after the collision. The driver is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. 

The Ponte Vedra Recorder reports that the pedestrian was seriously injured in the accident and flown to UF Health Jacksonville. The news report states the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was identified in the report as a 16-year-old male from Ponte Vedra. 

Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation of the accident, and it is not yet clear if any charges will be filed in the case. No additional information was available at the time the Ponte Vedra Recorder report was posted online.
