One Killed, Two Injured in Multi-Vehicle Wreck in Wilmington, NC
WILMINGTON, NC. – According to a news report posted online at wect.com, one person was killed and two people were injured in a multi-vehicle wreck that happened in Wilmington, North Carolina. The collision reportedly involved two motorcycles and two passenger vehicles, and it caused Gordon Road in Wilmington to close down.*
The accident occurred on Gordon Road, close to Ogden Park in Wilmington. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and WECT report that two motorcycles were headed east on Gordon Road. Troopers say they were traveling at a high rate of speed and were passing other vehicles inside of the center turn lane on the roadway.
Near Military Cutoff Road, both of the motorcycles crashed into a cement barrier. One of the motorcycles then crashed into a pickup truck, and debris from the crash struck a fourth vehicle. No description of the fourth vehicle was reported.
WECT reports that both motorcyclists were ejected from their bikes during the collision, and one of them was killed in the accident. The motorcyclist who was pronounced dead at the scene was identified as a 43-year-old man from Wilmington.
WECT further reports that the second motorcyclist and the driver of the pickup truck were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. They were not identified, and the extent of their injuries was not provided.
No one in the fourth vehicle was injured, according to WECT. The crash investigation shut down Gordon Road between Market Street and Netherlands Drive. North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck.
