Police Make Arrest in Case of Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Miami-Dade, Florida

MIAMI-DADE, FL. – According to an online news report posted at local10.com, police have made an arrest in the case of a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run collision in Miami-Dade County, Florida. A man was taken into custody in connection with the case and has been charged with several crimes, according to the news report.* 

The accident occurred at the intersection of Northwest 173rd Drive and 47th Avenue in Miami-Dade County. Local 10 and Miami-Dade Police say that a pedestrian was trying to walk across the intersection, when a 2013 Hyundai Elantra hit him. 

Police said the driver of the Hyundai did not stop following the collision or attempt to help the victim. The driver reportedly continued on 47th Avenue South. 

Local 10 reports that when police arrived at the scene, they found the victim in the roadway with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Several days after the accident, police located the suspected driver at a residence in Miami Gardens, Florida. A Hyundai Elantra at the residence had visible body damage and a windshield that had been recently replaced. Local 10 says the suspect, a 25-year-old man, admitted to officers that he was involved in the crash and also told police he had been smoking marijuana before the accident. 

Local 10 further reports that the suspect admitted to officers that he cleaned evidence off his vehicle and had the windshield replaced after the accident. He was placed under arrest and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and tampering with physical evidence.
