Georgia Man Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident in Seward County, Kansas

May 28, 2019

SEWARD COUNTY, KS. – According to an online news story reported by kscbnews.net, a man from Georgia was injured in a tractor-trailer accident that occurred in Seward County, Kansas. The man was a passenger in the tractor-trailer and was taken to a local hospital, according to the news report, along with the driver of the tractor-trailer.*

The accident happened in the late morning on Highway 83 in Seward County. Authorities and KSCB report a tractor-trailer that was traveling south on the highway about one mile outside of Liberal, Kansas, encountered some strong winds. A large gust of wind hit the side of the trailer and caused the rig to overturn, according to the report.

A picture taken at the scene and posted to the KSCB website shows the tractor-trailer lying on its side across both of the lanes of the highway. Weather information from the day of the accident was not included in the news report, but the roadway appears wet in the photo from the scene, suggesting it had been raining or storming that day.

KSCB reports that the driver of the tractor-trailer and a passenger in the tractor-trailer were injured in the collision and taken to Southwest Medical Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not reported. The driver was identified as a 39-year-old man from Springfield, Missouri. The news report said he was wearing his seat belt at the time of the wreck.

The passenger was identified as a 50-year-old man from Valdosta, Georgia. KSCB reported that he was not wearing his seat belt at the time because he was in the sleeper of the rig when the accident occurred.
