Woman Sues Boeing for Death of Husband in Ethiopian Airplane Crash

May 27, 2019

CHICAGO, IL. – According to a news story reported online at africa.cgtn.com, a woman from France has filed a lawsuit against Boeing related to the death of her husband. The woman’s husband was killed in the crash of a 737 MAX 8 airliner in Ethiopia, which was the second deadly 737 MAX 8 accident to occur in a matter of months.*

A woman who lost her husband in the Ethiopian airplane crash in March 2019 has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Boeing in Chicago, Illinois, seeking more than $270 million in damages. The crash that killed her husband was the second fatal collision involving a 737 MAX 8, and investigators found that both crashes were related to a sensor malfunction.

In October 2018, an Indonesian airliner crashed into the Java Sea, killing all of the people on board the Boeing plane. Investigation revealed a sensor issue had caused the nose of the plane to dive and the aircraft to repeatedly lose altitude. The March crash in Ethiopia mirrored the Indonesian crash, and governments and airlines around the world quickly moved to ground the entire Boeing 737 MAX line.

The Chicago lawsuit alleges that Boeing was aware of the potential problems with its sensor and failed to remedy the issues, failed to adequately train pilots on the system, and failed to inform pilots about the sensor issues.

“The life of my husband was taken knowingly and even willingly,” the plaintiff told reporters. “Boeing acted with cynicism. My husband was the collateral damage of a system, of a business strategy.”

Since its line of airplanes was grounded, Boeing has been scrambling to fix the safety issues and restore trust with consumers, airlines, and government agencies worldwide.
