UPDATE: Multi-Vehicle Accident Occurs on Highway 27
LAKE WALES, FL – According to an online news report at dailyridge.com, a multi-vehicle accident occurred that involved injuries on United States Highway 27 close to Waverly Road in Lake Wales.*
According to witnesses, Vehicle 1, a 2008 Mercury Sedan was going northerly on United States Highway 27 in the inside lane located about a quarter mile south of Waverly Road. For reasons that are unknown, the driver of Vehicle 1 lost control and her vehicle rotated clockwise as it was traveling northeasterly across the center and righthand lanes.
Vehicle 2, which was a Gold Toyota sedan was stopped and facing in a westerly direction in order to exit a parking lot. This was driven by a woman and had two male passengers. The one passenger was a child in a rear facing car seat. As Vehicle 1 exited the road, it hit into the front of Vehicle 2, which caused significant damage to the vehicle. Vehicle 1 then went into a small ditch, flipped over, and struck a fire hydrant and a tree. It finally came stopped at about seventy five feet northeasterly of the area where it exited the roadway, facing in a southbound direction. It sustained serious damage with a portion of the roof that had collapsed due to the impact of the accident. Vehicle 2 did not move out of its place however, due to the accident, it rotated clockwise about 120 degrees, facing northeasterly.
Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2 had airbags that deployed during the accident. All of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The drivers of Vehicle 1 and 2 were evaluated for signs of impairment. Both drivers did not appear to be impaired. Driving while distracted and going at an excessive rate of speed were also not suspected as a cause of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation by the local police. There are no further details on the accident at this time.
