Pedestrian Killed in Traffic Accident in Lexington County, South Carolina
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news report posted at abccolumbia.com, a pedestrian was killed in a traffic accident in Lexington County, South Carolina. The news report states that the pedestrian was 18 years old. Authorities are still investigating the accident to determine what happened.*
The collision took place late in the night on Broad Street in Gilbert, Lexington County, South Carolina. ABC Columbia and South Carolina Highway Patrol report that at about 10 p.m. that day, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the 400 block of the roadway. The news report does not provide a make or model of the vehicle involved or say what type of vehicle it was.
It is unclear whether the pedestrian was crossing Broad Street, was walking along the side of the road, or was in a lane of travel. The circumstances of the accident have not yet been fully reported. The news story did not say whether the collision happened inside of a crosswalk or pedestrian walking area.
ABC Columbia reports that the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries from the crash, and officials tragically pronounced him dead at the scene. He was identified by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office as an 18-year-old man from Lexington.
The driver of the vehicle was not identified by authorities. ABC Columbia reported that he or she was not injured and stopped following the accident to try to render aid to the victim. It is unclear if anyone else was riding in the vehicle. South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating and has not said whether charges are anticipated.
