Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on U.S. 19 in Palmetto, Florida
PALMETTO, FL. – According to an online news report published at bradenton.com, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 19 in Palmetto, Florida. Investigators believe after preliminary review that the motorcyclist lost control on the roadway and crashed. No other vehicles appear to have been involved.*
The accident occurred in the evening on U.S. 19 near U.S. Highway 41 in Palmetto. Florida Highway Patrol and the Bradenton Herald report that a 2006 Honda motorcycle was traveling north on the highway at about 7:45 p.m. and came to a left curve in the roadway a short distance north of U.S. 41. Troopers say the rider lost control around the curve and left the road.
Upon leaving the roadway, Troopers say the motorcycle traveled into the shoulder and crashed into a guardrail. The motorcycle continued forward and crashed into a bridge wall, then traveled across the north lanes of the highway, where it came to a final stop against the guardrail on the other side of the road.
The Bradenton Herald reports that the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike during the initial impact with the guardrail, and he fell over the side of the rail and onto an embankment below. The Bradenton Herald further reports that the motorcyclist died from his injuries. He was identified as a 22-year-old man from Bradenton, Florida.
It does not appear that any other people were riding on the motorcycle. Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck, and Troopers have not provided additional information about the cause of the collision at this time.
