Three Killed in Vehicle Crash in Franklin County, Kansas
FRANKLIN COUNTY, KS. – According to an online news report posted by fox4kc.com, three people were killed in a vehicle crash that occurred in Franklin County, Kansas. The crash appears to have been preceded by a driver losing control after overcorrecting. The victims have not yet been identified.*
The collision happened in the morning on May 14 on Interstate 35 in Franklin County. According to preliminary investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was traveling north on I-35 at approximately 9 a.m. that day and ran off the road near Florida Road. The driver then appears to have overcorrected and traveled across the median in the interstate.
The vehicle subsequently entered the southbound side of I-35, according to the news report, and crashed into a southbound vehicle. The impact sent both vehicles veering from the roadway. The makes and models of the vehicles were not reported.
Fox 4 reports that three people who were traveling in the northbound vehicle were killed in the crash. It is not clear if they were the only occupants of the vehicle. Their names were not reported.
In addition, Fox 4 says the driver of the southbound vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital. Two dogs that were in this vehicle were taken to a nearby animal shelter to be picked up by the driver.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the case. At this point, it is still not clear what caused the northbound vehicle to initially leave the roadway and then travel back across the interstate.
