One Killed, One Injured in Vehicle Crash in Glynn County, Georgia
GLYNN COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report posted at news4jax.com, one person was killed and another was seriously injured in a vehicle accident that occurred in Glynn County, Georgia. Police reportedly say that the accident was related to a street race, and the driver was fleeing from officers.*
The accident took place in the early morning on May 12 on Ratcliffe Road in Glynn County. Georgia State Patrol and News 4 Jax report that at about 2:30 a.m., a law enforcement officer observed two vehicles — a Dodge Charger and a Ford Mustang — traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. Highway 82. The officer reportedly believed the two drivers were racing and recorded the vehicles traveling more than 104 mph.
The officer then attempted to stop the vehicles. The Dodge pulled over, but the Ford continued on, fleeing from the officer. It appears the officer waited for backup and stayed with the Dodge, and after a brief time, the driver of the Ford approached the officer on foot and said he had crashed his vehicle.
The crash was at Ratcliffe Road and Williamson Avenue. Responders found the Ford overturned with two passengers inside. News 4 Jax reports that a female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The news report further states that emergency crews extricated a male passenger from the vehicle, after which he was flown to UF Health with serious injuries.
News 4 Jax also reports the Ford driver was transported to the Southeast Georgia Health hospital in Brunswick, Georgia, for evaluation. It is not yet clear whether the driver will be charged.
