May 18, 2019

GWINNETT COUNTY, GEORGIA – As reported online by and, a 24-year-old man suffered fatal injuries when his disabled vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver on I-85.*

At around 6:00 a.m., a 24-year-old man was struck from behind when his vehicle was disabled on I-85 north of Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.  The impact of the collision pushed the 24-year-old man’s disabled vehicle into the path of a tractor-trailer.

According to the Gwinnett County Police, the driver who struck the 24-year-old man’s disabled vehicle, a 33-year-old Norcross woman, was allegedly under the influence at the time of the accident and failed to stay in her lane.  The woman was arrested and is facing charges of driving under the influence and homicide by vehicle.

Public records reveal that the 33-year-old woman has a criminal history including charges of trafficking meth, criminal intent to commit a crime, possession of marijuana, and multiple probation and failure to appear violations.

Disabled Vehicles and Highway Accidents

Having a disabled vehicle on any street or highway can be nerve-wracking, especially when it is dark or when there is heavy traffic.  While it is ideal for the occupants of a disabled vehicle to exit safely, it is not always feasible.  Sometimes waiting in a disabled vehicle is the only option depending on the circumstances.  a vehicle’s flashing lights on may not be enough to prevent a dangerous and potentially fatal collision from happening.  As such, drivers should always be extremely cautious when pulling to the side of a road or highway as well as when passing disabled vehicles. During any emergency, do not hesitate to call 911.
