Man Killed in Head-On Tractor-Trailer Crash in Autauga County, Alabama

AUTAUGA COUNTY, AL. – According to an online news report published by, a man was killed in a head-on vehicle crash that occurred in Autauga County, Alabama. The accident involved two tractor-trailers, and another person was injured in the crash, according to the news report.*

The accident happened sometime in the afternoon on May 13, but it is not clear specifically what time it occurred. The Alabama News Network reports that a tractor-trailer was traveling north on Interstate 65 in Autauga County, while another tractor-trailer was traveling south on the same interstate. 

Not far outside of Prattville, Alabama, the southbound tractor-trailer crossed over the median in the interstate and entered the northbound lanes. The southbound tractor-trailer then crashed into the northbound tractor-trailer head-on. It is not clear from the news report what caused the southbound tractor-trailer driver to cross the median and travel into the northbound side of the roadway.

Alabama News Network reports that the driver of the northbound tractor-trailer was killed in the collision. Officials responding to the accident pronounced him dead at the scene. He was identified as a 58-year-old man from South Carolina. 

Alabama News Network further reports that the driver of the southbound tractor-trailer was injured in the accident and taken to a hospital for treatment. He or she was not identified, and the nature of his or her injuries is not known. 

The crash caused all of the northbound lanes on I-65 to be closed down for several hours. Traffic was diverted onto Exit 186 during this time.
