Child Killed in Collision at School Bus Stop in Franklinville, North Carolina

May 15, 2019

FRANKLINVILLE, NC. – According to an online news story posted at cbs17.com, a child was killed in a collision at a school bus stop in Franklinville, North Carolina. The circumstances of the accident are not yet completely clear, and at this time, the driver of the vehicle has not been charged in connection with the collision.*

The incident occurred in the morning on May 13 on Whites Memorial Road in Franklinville. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and CBS 17 report that at approximately 7 a.m. that day, an 8-year-old girl and her sibling were waiting for a school bus at a stop in the 2400 block of Whites Memorial Road. Troopers say that for reasons not yet known, the girl ran into the roadway.

When she got into the road, the girl reportedly ran into the path of an oncoming 2014 Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep then ran into the girl. The girl’s sibling witnessed the accident.

CBS 17 reports that the girl sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. It does not appear that the girl’s sibling was injured. The sibling’s age was not reported.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating the case. At this time, the Jeep driver, who was not identified in the CBS 17 report, is not facing any charges for the accident.

The Randolph County School System confirmed that the victim was a student at Grays Chapel Elementary School. The school system released a statement following the accident, saying it was “deeply saddened” by the loss of the student, who was reportedly in third grade. The statement went onto say that counseling support would be provided to students and staff in the district.
