Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian, Leaves Scene in Atlanta, Georgia
ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news report posted at mdjonline.com, a driver fatally struck a pedestrian then left the scene outside of a dance club in Atlanta, Georgia. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim. Police are asking for assistance from the public in locating the driver.*
The collision occurred shortly after midnight on May 13 at an intersection outside of a dance club in Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department and MDJ report that at about 12:10 a.m., a male pedestrian was walking across Roswell Road at Ivy Chase Way NE by Johnny’s Hideaway. Police said that preliminary investigation indicated that the pedestrian fell while walking across the roadway and was struck by a northbound vehicle while he was lying in the road.
Following the crash, police say the driver of the vehicle left the scene. It is not yet clear what caused the pedestrian to fall. The MDJ report says this area was known for jaywalking by Johnny’s customers who parked across the street. The situation was address when the city installed a traffic light at the intersection and created a pedestrian crosswalk.
It is unclear if the victim of the May 13 accident had been inside the crosswalk before he fell. MDJ reports that the pedestrian did not survive his injuries. His name and age have not been released at this time.
Police are asking for assistance from members of the public in identifying the driver involved in this accident and locating the missing car. Officers said the car is a dark-colored sedan.
