Multiple People were Injured Due to a Drunk Driver in Putnam County, Georgia

PUTNAM COUNTY, GA—According to an online news report at wgxa.tv, a multi-automobile crash occurred on Wednesday, May 8, 2018 due to a drunk driver.*

The drunk driver, a twenty one year old man from Decatur, was responsible for a multi-automobile accident that caused several individuals to be hospitalized.  The man was arrested and charged with DUI, serious injury by vehicle, which is a felony, and failure to maintain lane.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, who arrived on the scene of the accident, indicated that the crash occurred after 8:00 a.m. on United States Highway 441.  The drunk driver was operating a Honda CRV and was headed southbound.  All of a sudden, he veered into the northbound lane, which caused him to sideswipe a Jeep Liberty. As a result of the impact, the Jeep kept going as it was rotating around and entered into the opposite lane of traffic, causing a Chevrolet Impala to strike it. 

The drunk driver kept heading in a southerly direction in the northbound lane where it slammed into a Toyota Highlander. The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to lose control and overturn on a shoulder of the roadway.

The drunk driver kept going and crossed into the southbound lane of Highway 441, and finally stopped on the shoulder.

The Georgia State Patrol report that two individuals in the Jeep were the children of those riding in the Toyota. All four members of the family were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The woman who was operating the Chevrolet was not wearing her seatbelt and as a result, needed to be taken by helicopter to an area hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
