Authorities Asking for Public’s Help in Finding Hit-and-Run Vehicle in York County, SC,

May 14, 2019

YORK COUNTY, SC. – According to a news report published online at newsobserver.com, authorities in York County, South Carolina, are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run collision. The collision caused the death of a woman, and the driver has still not been found.*

The crash took place shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 4, on South Carolina Highway 55 in York County. South Carolina Highway Patrol and The News & Observer report that a woman was walking in the area of Highway 55 and Griggs Road, outside of Clover, South Carolina, when she was struck by a vehicle.

The News & Observer reports that the vehicle involved left the scene after the collision, and the woman tragically died of her injuries. The victim was identified as a 38-year-old woman by the York County Coroner’s Office.

Troopers launched an investigation and worked to locate the missing vehicle and driver. They are now releasing information to the public in hopes it will lead to an arrest. Troopers say the suspect vehicle is a Jeep Liberty, gold in color, manufactured between 2002 and 2007. The vehicle likely has front-end damage and a damaged windshield, Troopers say.

A description of the suspected driver was not provided in the report. Anyone who has information about the vehicle is urged to contact South Carolina Highway Patrol at (803) 896-9621 or (800) 768-1504. People can also phone in tips to Crime Stoppers at (877) 409-4321.

The Major Accident Investigation Team with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety is also investigating the collision.
