Injury Accident Shuts Down 17th Street in Sarasota, Florida

May 14, 2019

SARASOTA, FL. – According to an online news story reported at mysuncoast.com, an injury accident caused part of 17th Street to shut down in Sarasota, Florida. WWSB reports that one person was trapped in a vehicle following the collision, and authorities are still in the process of investigating the crash.*

The accident took place in the afternoon on May 8 at the crossing of 17th Street and East Avenue in Sarasota. WWSB states that two vehicles were somehow involved in a crash at the intersection at about 3:30 p.m. that day. No information about the circumstances leading to the collision or the cause of the collision was included in the news report.

The makes and models of the two vehicles were not provided in the report, nor were descriptions of the vehicles. Photos that were taken at the scene and posted to the WWSB website show that one of the vehicles was white GMC pickup truck, and the other was a white SUV. The make of the SUV cannot be discerned from the photo because of the damage to the vehicle’s front end.

WWSB states that one person was trapped in one of the vehicles following the crash, and at least one person was injured. The accident scene photo indicates that the entrapped person was riding in the pickup truck, as the roof of the truck has been cut off.

The news report does not list the extent of injuries sustained. No one involved in the wreck was identified.

Following the accident, the intersection was closed down for several hours while crews tended to the victims and cleared the scene. Authorities have not yet completed their investigation or released further information.
