Officials Searching for Two Missing Men After Boat Collision in Cumming, Georgia

CUMMING, GA. – According to an online news story reported at patch.com, officials are searching for two men who are missing after a boat collision that occurred on Lake Lanier in Cumming, Georgia. The men have not been identified at this time, and the cause of the accident has not been determined.* 

Patch reports that a boating accident occurred on Lake Lanier on the afternoon of May 8. The accident reportedly took place near Little Ridge Park at Bald Ridge Creek, and the investigation caused the park to close down. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth Fire Department, Army Corps of Engineers, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene. 

It appears the accident occurred around 5 p.m., when a fishing excursion ended with some type of accident. The cause of the accident has not been reported, and it is not clear if more than one boat was involved. The circumstances leading to the collision were not described by officials. 

Responders at the scene located three people who had been on the same boat. Patch reports that one of these people, a male, had sustained serious injuries. The other two people, both females, sustained minor injuries and declined treatment beyond the scene, according to Patch. No names were released in the report. 

Two additional men who were reportedly involved in the accident were missing when responders arrived. Patch states that these two men have still not been located. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said boats were actively looking for the men, and added that people should avoid the lake for the time being. The two men’s names were also not released.
