One Person Killed in Tractor-Trailer Collision in Jefferson County, Florida
JEFFERSON COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report from wtxl.com, one person was killed in a tractor-trailer collision in Jefferson County, Florida. It appears the accident was a rear-end crash and involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger car. WTXL says the driver of the car was fatally injured.*
The collision took place in the evening on May 7 on U.S. Highway 27 in Jefferson County. Florida Highway Patrol and WTXL report that a car was traveling west on U.S. 27 at about 7:45 p.m. that day and was heading toward U.S. Highway 19. The make and model of the car were not included in the report. Near U.S. 19, the car somehow crashed into the back of a westbound tractor-trailer.
Following the impact, the car traveled underneath the trailer of the rig. The tractor-trailer pulled over to the side of U.S. 27 while dragging the car behind it.
It is not clear at this time what caused the collision. Troopers have not provided information about the circumstances leading up to the accident or what factors they might be investigating as potential causes.
WTXL reports that the driver of the car was killed in the collision. Officials identified him as a 28-year-old man from Perry, Florida. It does not appear that any passengers were riding in the car at the time. It is unclear if the driver of the tractor-trailer, who was not identified, was injured in the wreck.
Florida Highway Patrol and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and Troopers are handling the accident investigation.
