Pedestrian Struck by Multiple Vehicles on Interstate 20 in Villa Rica, Georgia

VILLA RICA, GA. – According to an online news report posted at fox5atlanta.com, a pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles on Interstate 20 in Villa Rica, Georgia. Fox 5 reports that the pedestrian died from his injuries. Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation and is still in the process of reviewing the case.*

The incident occurred early in the morning on Tuesday, May 7, on Interstate 20 West in Villa Rica. Georgia State Patrol and Fox 5 report that a man was walking west inside the right lane of I-20 West at about 5:50 a.m. that day. It is unclear why the man was walking on the interstate. It appears he was inside the lane of travel and not on the shoulder.

Troopers say a 2015 Nissan Versa that was attempting to merge onto I-20 West from Georgia Highway 61 then hit the man. The impact threw the man into the next lane, where he was struck by several additional vehicles, according to Georgia State Patrol. Troopers did not say how many vehicles were involved in total. 

Fox 5 reports that the pedestrian was fatally injured in the incident. He was not identified in the news report. However, Fox 5 confirmed he was not the man who had been reported missing from the Carroll County prison earlier that day. 

None of the drivers involved, including the driver of the Nissan Versa, was identified. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the case, and Troopers have not said whether charges are anticipated. 

The accident caused all lanes of I-20 West to shut down while crews worked at the scene. It is not clear how long the lanes remained closed.
