Vehicle Wreck Leads to Backup on I-85 in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news report posted at 11alive.com, a vehicle wreck led to a traffic backup on Interstate 85 in Atlanta, Georgia. The wreck took place during the morning rush hour, causing significant traffic delays on the interstate and around the Atlanta metro. Little information has been released regarding the accident.*

Several lanes on Interstate 85 South were shut down near Jimmy Carter Boulevard on the morning of Wednesday, May 8, after a vehicle accident took place near Pleasantdale. It is not clear exactly what time the accident occurred, but it appears it happened during the Wednesday morning commute, meaning heavy traffic backups ensued. 

The report from 11 Alive does not say how many vehicles were involved in the wreck or what types of vehicles crashed. No vehicle makes or models were reported. It is also not clear how the wreck took place or whether anyone was injured. Authorities responding to the crash site did not provide immediate details about the circumstances of the accident.

The accident resulted in lane closures for two of the left lanes on I-85 South and an HOV lane. The lanes remained shut down while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The accident investigation is still underway. 

Because of the lane closures on the interstate, 11 Alive was reporting that delays of at least an hour were expected for motorists headed to Interstate 285 from Georgia Highway 316. Reporters advised drivers to take the alternate routes of Georgia Highway 29, Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Beaver Ruin Road, or Satellite Boulevard.
