Man Killed in Powerline Incident in Jackson County, Florida
JACKSON COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news story posted at wtxl.com, a man was killed in an incident with a power line in Jackson County, Florida. The man was reportedly having a load of dirt delivered to his home, and the dump truck hit a powerline that subsequently fell onto the homeowner. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.*
The incident occurred on the morning of Friday, May 3, at a residence in Jackson County near Mission Road and Turk Road. Florida Highway Patrol says a homeowner arranged for a load of dirt to be delivered to his home that day, and a dump truck arrived and started to unload the dirt at the residence.
During the unloading process, the dump truck operator drove forward and lifted the dump bed to make sure all of the dirt emptied out. In so doing, the dump bed became caught in an overhead powerline. The truck operator then lowered the bed, which caused the powerline to break free and fall to the ground below.
Florida Highway Patrol says the powerline landed on the homeowner, who had been standing nearby observing the unloading. WTXL reports the line, which was still live with power, make contact with the victim, and he sustained fatal injuries. Officials pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was identified as being 73 years old.
WTXL reports that the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, and Troopers say that charges are pending. The company affiliated with the dump truck was not named in the news report, and the truck operator was not identified.
