Woman Killed in Head-On Car Crash in Ave Maria, Florida
AVE MARIA, FL. – According to a news report published online at naplesnews.com, a woman was killed in a head-on car crash near Ave Maria, Florida. Two other people were injured in the crash, according to the news report, and Florida Highway Patrol is still in the process of investigating the circumstances of the accident.*
The crash took place in the early evening on Sunday, May 5, on Camp Keais Road near Ave Maria. Florida Highway Patrol and Naples Daily News report that at approximately 5:30 p.m. that day, a 2015 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on Keais Road. Troopers report that a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling south on Keais Road at the same time.
Near the area of Ranch One Road, the Chevy somehow crossed over the centerline of the roadway and entered oncoming traffic. The Chevy drove into the path of the Hyundai, after which the two vehicles crashed into each other head-on. Troopers do not yet know what caused the Chevy driver to veer outside the southbound lane.
Naples Daily News reports that the driver of the Hyundai and a passenger in the Hyundai were injured and transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver, identified as a 74-year-old man from Ave Maria, was reportedly in serious condition. The passenger was identified as an 80-year-old woman from Ave Maria.
Naples Daily News further reports that the driver of the Chevy was critically injured and taken to NCH Healthcare Northwest, where she died from her injuries. She was identified as a 49-year-old woman from Ave Maria.
Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
