Three Students Injured in School Bus Collision in Okaloosa County, Florida

May 08, 2019

OKALOOSA COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report posted by nwfdailynews.com, three students were injured in a school bus collision in Okaloosa County, Florida. No information about the students has been released, and authorities report that the driver of the other vehicle was charged for the accident.*

The crash happened in the morning on Monday, May 6, on Keyser Mill Road in Okaloosa County. Florida Highway Patrol and NWF Daily News report that an Okaloosa County Schools bus was on its morning route and traveling north on Keyser Mill Road. At the intersection with Galiver Cutoff, a white Nissan Sentra that was traveling south attempted to make a left-hand turn.

Troopers reported that in making the turn, the Nissan traveled into the path of the school bus. The bus then hit the passenger’s side of the Nissan. It is not yet clear why the driver of the Nissan turned in front of the school bus.

NWF Daily News reports that three students who were traveling on the bus sustained injuries and were taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center for treatment. The news report did not provide the students’ ages. It is not clear how many students were on the bus in total at the time of the accident.

The school bus driver was identified as a 61-year-old man from Crestview, Florida. It is unclear if he was injured.

The report also does not say whether the driver of the Nissan was injured or whether anyone else was riding in the Nissan. Troopers reportedly charged the driver with failure to yield after the collision. He was identified as a 21-year-old man from Baker, Florida.
