Two Injured in Collision with Suspected Stolen Vehicle in Clearwater, Florida
CLEARWATER, FL. – According to a news story reported online at patch.com, two people were injured in a rear-end collision with a suspected stolen vehicle in Clearwater, Florida. Police officers say that the suspect driver has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes in connection with the incident.*
The events leading to the collision began on the morning of May 6 at the Speedway gas station located at Court Street and Chestnut Street in Clearwater. The Clearwater Police Department and Patch report that a man stole a Mercedes vehicle at the gas station and took off, traveling eastbound on Court Street. The Mercedes was reportedly owned by an acquaintance of the suspect.
Shortly after the theft, the suspect crashed the Mercedes into the back of a BMW that was also traveling east on Court Street. It is not clear how this accident took place.
Patch reports that the driver of the BMW and a passenger in the BMW were both injured in the wreck with the Mercedes, and emergency crews took them to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for treatment. The driver, a male, was said to be in critical condition. The extent of injuries to the passenger, a female, was not reported. Their names were not released.
It is unclear if the Mercedes driver was injured. He was identified as a 28-year-old man from Clearwater. Patch reported that he was placed under arrest, and he would be charged with grand theft auto, DUI with serious bodily injury, leave the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, careless driving, and driving with a suspended license.
