Two People Killed in Vehicle Accident in Moore Haven, Florida

MOORE HAVEN, FL. – According to a news story reported online at swflorida.blogspot.com, two people were killed in a vehicle accident that took place in Moore Haven, Florida. Troopers with Florida Highway Patrol are handling the investigation, and they believe the accident was due to a driver running a red light.*

The accident took place in the late morning on May 4 at an intersection in Moore Haven. Florida Highway Patrol and Southwest Florida Online say that a vehicle was traveling west on U.S. Highway 27, and another vehicle was traveling south on 10th Street at the same time. The makes and models of the two vehicles were not reported.

At the intersection of U.S. 27 and 10th Street, Troopers say the westbound vehicle ran a red light. The vehicle then entered the intersection, where it struck the southbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle was forced into the median after impact, while the westbound vehicle traveled into the shoulder of U.S. 27 before coming to a stop.

Southwest Florida Online reports that the driver of the southbound vehicle and a passenger in the same vehicle were killed in the wreck. The driver was identified as a 62-year-old woman from Moore Haven. The passenger was identified as a 66-year-old man from Moore Haven. 

It is not clear from the Southwest Florida Online report if the driver of the westbound vehicle was injured. He was identified as a 65-year-old man from Cypress, Texas. At this time, Troopers have not identified any potential reasons this driver ran the red light. The accident is still under investigation.
