Man Flees the Scene of Deadly Dania Beach Accident
DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA – As reported online by www.sun-sentinel.com, a 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run pedestrian accident.*
According to local police, a 37-year-old man was arrested on April 29, 2019, for his role in causing a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Dania Beach. Authorities indicate that the man struck a 53-year-old pedestrian attempting to cross the street near the intersection of Southwest 40thAvenue and Griffin Road. The accident happened in the early morning hours last November 2018. As such, it is unclear why the 37-year-old man was recently arrested.
Evidence from the scene of the accident suggests that the pedestrian may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time he was struck by the 37-year-old man’s Dodge Charger. Additionally, an arrest report indicates that the 37-year-old man drove home after striking the victim so that he could hide his marijuana. He then contacted 911 to report the accident, returning to the scene. Once he arrived at the scene, emergency personnel had already attempted CPR to save the 53-year-old victim.
The 37-year-old man admitted to striking the pedestrian and was honest with police about why he initially fled the scene of the accident. Whether the pedestrian could have survived the accident had 911 been called sooner is unclear. However, the damage was already done, and a man lost his life. The 37-year-old man is being held on $20,000 bond and faces multiple criminal charges, including failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to render aid to the victim. Whether the man will face additional criminal charges is unclear.
