Vehicle Accident Blocks Turnpike in Vero Beach, Florida

VERO BEACH, FL. – According to an online news report published by cbs12.com, a vehicle accident blocked the Florida Turnpike in Vero Beach, Florida. At the time of the CBS 12 report’s publishing, authorities had released little information about the circumstances of the crash or whether anyone was injured in the accident.*  

The accident occurred sometime on Thursday, May 2, but the report does not say exactly what time. Authorities were called to the scene of a vehicle accident on the Florida Turnpike, by mile marker 179 in Vero Beach, Indian River County, Florida. It is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the collision or what events led to the collision.

The nature of the crash was not described, and the makes and models of the vehicles were not reported. The report from CBS 12 states that a fire broke out after the crash. It is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the fire. 

Photos taken from the scene and posted to the CBS 12 website suggest that a box truck and a tractor-trailer were two of the vehicles involved in the collision. It appears the box truck crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer. It appears from the photos that a second tractor-trailer and potentially a passenger car might have also been involved. 

Authorities responding to the scene did not immediately say whether anyone sustained injuries in the accident. They did not say how many people were involved, either, or identify any of the persons involved. The crash caused part of the turnpike to close down while crews investigated. The investigation is still underway.
