Troopers Report Three Fatal Crashes During April 2019 in Coweta County, Georgia
COWETA COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story from times-herald.com, Georgia State Patrol reported that three fatal vehicle crashes occurred during the month of April in Coweta County, Georgia. Troopers released this figures, along with numbers regarding other traffic incidents, in a monthly report.*
Troopers with Post 24 of the Georgia State Patrol, which is located in Newnan, Georgia, reportedly responded to 76 vehicle collisions during April 2019. Sgt. Mike Searcy of Georgia State Patrol said that these collisions led to 28 injuries and three deaths. No specific information was reported about the three fatal accidents in this report.
Also during April, Troopers with Post 24 initiated almost 600 traffic stops and wrote 353 citations to drivers in Coweta County. The citations included 141 for speeding and 43 for distracted driving or violation of the Georgia hands-free law. Troopers also gave out 57 warnings for distracted driving.
In addition, Troopers issued nearly 480 other warnings for numerous infractions and made 19 arrests for driving under the influence. The report did not specify whether the 19 arrests were for DUI alcohol or DUI drugs.
Sgt. Searcy said that as May begins, Troopers want to remind drivers in the county to keep close eyes on the road and eliminate distractions in their vehicles, especially distractions from cell phones. It is illegal to hold a cell phone or other electronic device while driving in Georgia. Searcy said that 22 percent of all traffic accidents are caused by driver distraction in the three seconds prior to the crash.
