Police Release Additional Information About Fatal Accident in Oak Ridge, Tennessee
OAK RIDGE, TN. – According to a news report posted online at knoxnews.com, officers with the Oak Ridge Police Department have released additional information about a fatal vehicle accident that occurred in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A man was killed in the collision, according to police, and another person sustained injuries.*
The crash occurred in the early afternoon on Tuesday, April 30, on Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge. The Oak Ridge Police Department and Knox News report that at approximately 12:30 p.m. that day, two vehicles were involved in a serious accident. A spokesperson for the City of Oak Ridge, Sarah Self, said that the collision took place near the crossing with Newport Drive.
Authorities have not yet provided details about how the crash happened or what types of vehicles were involved. Officers investigating the case did not say what events transpired before the crash occurred.
Knox News reports that one person involved in the wreck was critically injured and died at the scene of the crash. He has been identified by authorities as a 77-year-old man from Oak Ridge. It is not clear from the news report if the victim was driving one of the vehicles or was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
In addition, Knox News reports that one person sustained serious injuries in the accident. This person has still not been identified by authorities. He or she was transported to Methodist Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, according to Self.
The collision caused multiple lane closures in the area for nearly five hours. The investigation is ongoing.
