Multi-Vehicle Wreck Closes Part of I-20 in Richland County, South Carolina
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news story reported at thestate.com, a multi-vehicle wreck closed down part of Interstate 20 in Richland County, South Carolina. Authorities had reported little information about the accident at the time the news story was published, and it was not clear if anyone was injured.*
The accident occurred sometime in the late afternoon on Tuesday, April 30, on Interstate 20 in Richland County. South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Lance Cpl. David Jones said that the crash took place in the eastbound lanes by South Carolina Highway 215, which is Exit 68 on the interstate.
Jones said that the accident involved several vehicles, but no descriptions of the vehicles were included in the news report. The exact number of vehicles was also not reported. The accident caused all of the eastbound lanes to close down at around 5:20 p.m. that day, which affected the afternoon commute. Drivers were told to expect delays if traveling through the area.
Traffic delays were exacerbated further because of an earlier collision that happened at about 4:30 p.m. the same day near Exit 58 on I-20 East. It is not clear if anyone was injured in either of these wrecks, and the causes of the accidents were not reported. All lanes of the interstate were reopened at approximately 6 p.m. that day.
However, traffic issues continued on the section of the interstate, when a disabled vehicle caused two of the lanes on I-20 East to close near Exit 65. This occurred around 6:30 p.m., and the lanes were again reopened a short time later.
