Pedestrian Struck in Traffic on I-85 in Charlotte, North Carolina

May 03, 2019

CHARLOTTE, NC. – According to an online news story reported at patch.com, a pedestrian was struck and killed in traffic on Interstate 85 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Little information about the incident was included in the Patch report, which says the pedestrian was attempting to cross the interstate at the time of the collision.*

The accident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, April 30, on I-85 in Charlotte. Authorities say that near Exit 34, a man was trying to cross four lanes of the interstate and was struck by a vehicle. The man was not identified in the Patch report, and authorities said he tragically died at the scene.

Another news report from wcnc.com provides more information about the incident. This report says the man, age 82, was traveling to New York from South Carolina with his wife, and the couple became lost while traveling through Charlotte at around 10 a.m. that day.

In the area near Glenwood Drive, the man pulled his vehicle into the shoulder of I-85 and told his wife he was going to ask someone for directions. He crossed the interstate to try to talk to someone on a lawn mower, but the person on the mower was out of reach when the man made it to the other side. He then attempted to again cross the interstate to return to his vehicle and was hit by a car.

The man’s name has not been released, nor has any information about the man’s wife or the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, and Troopers have not yet released additional information.
