One Person Killed in Dump Truck Crash in Cameron, North Carolina
CAMERON, NC. – According to a news report posted at cbs17.com, one person was killed in a dump truck collision that occurred in Cameron, North Carolina. The crash was described as a head-on collision, and investigators have not yet determined what circumstances led to the accident.*
The accident took place in the early morning on Monday, April 29, on North Carolina Highway 24 in Cameron. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and CBS 17 state that a car of unknown make and model was traveling on Highway 24/North Carolina Highway 27 at approximately 6 a.m. that day. A dump truck was traveling in the opposite direction on the highway at the same time.
Near the area of Lizzie Jeter Lane, Troopers say the car crossed over the centerline of the highway. Troopers report that the car entered opposite traffic at a high rate of speed and crashed into the dump truck head-on. It is not clear at this time what caused the driver of the car to leave the lane of travel.
CBS 17 reports that the driver of the car suffered fatal injuries from the wreck and died at the scene. He or she was not identified in the news report. CBS 17 further reports that a passenger in the car, who was also not identified, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries. His or her current condition was not reported.
The news report states that the driver of the dump truck was not transported to a hospital for treatment. This driver was not identified. The company affiliated with the dump truck is reportedly based out of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Crews responding to the scene shut down the roadway to clean up a fuel spill, and the road was not reopened until about 11 a.m. that day.
