One Killed, One Injured in Vehicle Crash in Rockingham County, North Carolina
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC. – According to a news story posted online at myfox8.com, one person was killed, and another person was injured in a vehicle crash that occurred in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Investigators believe the accident happened because one of the vehicles crossed over the centerline of the road.*
The accident occurred in the morning on April 29 on Old North Carolina Highway 87 in Rockingham County. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Fox 8 report that at approximately 9 a.m. that day, a pickup truck was traveling on Old N.C. 87 and crossed over the centerline of the highway near Eden.
After leaving its lane of travel, the pickup truck reportedly crashed into and drove on top of a Nissan Sentra that had been headed in the opposite direction on the highway. Troopers have not yet determined what caused the pickup driver to cross the centerline. The news report said it was a lifted pickup, but the make and model of the truck were not reported.
Fox 8 reports the driver of Sentra was fatally injured in the wreck, and officials pronounced her dead at the scene. She was identified as a 52-year-old woman from Eden, North Carolina. It does not appear that anyone else was riding in the Sentra at the time.
Fox 8 also reports the driver of the truck sustained serious injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital via medical helicopter. He was identified as a 19-year-old man from Reidsville, North Carolina. His injuries were described as life-threatening.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
