Woman Seriously Injured After Hit by Vehicle in Newport, Tennessee

May 01, 2019

NEWPORT, TN. – According to an online news report posted at citizentribune.com, a woman was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in Newport, Tennessee. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and spoke to authorities. Both the woman and the vehicle driver have been identified by officials.*

The incident took place in the afternoon on April 27 on West Broadway in Newport. The New Port Police Department says that at about 4:30 p.m., officers responded to the scene near the Auto Zone on West Broadway to find that a woman had been hit by a vehicle.

Officers and the Citizen Tribune report that a woman was riding a motorized scooter eastbound in the shoulder of westbound West Broadway and was crossing a roadway, when a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado struck her.

The driver of the Chevy reportedly told police that he was in the process of pulling out of the Auto Zone parking lot. The Chevy driver told officers that he observed traffic was clear before starting into the road, then heard a bump against his truck. At that time, he realized he’d hit someone, according to the report.

The Citizen Tribune reports the woman who was riding the scooter was seriously injured and transported to Newport Medical Center. She was then airlifted to UT Medical Center for further treatment. She was identified as a 54-year-old woman from Newport.

It does not appear the Chevy driver was injured, according to reports. He was identified as a 25-year-old man from Newport. The Newport Police Department is still investigating the collision, and officers have not released further information.
