One Child Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Car Crash in Deerfield Beach, Florida

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, one child was killed, and another child was seriously injured in a car crash that took place in Deerfield, Florida. Troopers with Florida Highway Patrol reported that one child was 2 years old, and the other child was 5 years old.* 

The accident occurred on April 28 on Interstate 95 in Deerfield Beach. Tragically, Florida Highway Patrol and the Sun Sentinel say the 2-year-old child died in the crash, and the 5-year-old child is currently on life support. Troopers have reported that the children were both not in child safety seats, but they have not said whether the children were wearing seat belts.

Authorities say the accident occurred at about 10:45 a.m., when a 2014 Toyota Corolla crashed into a 2019 Kia Forte near Sample Road on I-95 South. The children, both girls from Deerfield Beach, were riding in the Toyota. It is not clear at this time how the accident took place or what might have caused the accident. 

The Sun Sentinel reports that one of the girls was flown by helicopter to Broward Health Medical Center, while the other was taken to the same hospital by ambulance. The Sun Sentinel also reports that the driver of the Toyota, a 34-year-old woman from Deerfield Beach, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Her relation to the children is not known. 

The Sun Sentinel further states that the driver of the Kia, a 26-year-old man from Illinois, was also seriously injured. He was transported to North Broward Medical Center. Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
