Woman Killed in Vehicle Accident on I-85 in Georgia
GEORGIA – According to a news report posted at times-herald.com, a woman was killed in a vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 65 in Georgia. It appears the accident began with a rear-end collision, and the victim was a passenger in one of the vehicles. At least one other person was injured in the crash, according to the news report.*
Georgia State Patrol and the Newnan Times-Herald report that the accident happened at about 6:30 a.m. on April 26 on I-85 South. Troopers say that a Ford car (model not reported) was stopped in the shoulder of I-85 South near mile marker 53. It is not clear why the Ford was stopped on the interstate, but Troopers say part of the car was still sticking out into a lane of travel.
A southbound 2016 Chevrolet Impala then crashed into the Ford from behind. The force of the impact sent the Ford traveling forward for more than 50 feet, after which it struck a concrete wall on the interstate. The Chevy also continued forward after impact and came to a stop facing north in one of the southbound lanes.
The Newnan Times-Herald reports that a passenger in the Ford sustained critical injuries and did not survive. She was identified as a 63-year-old woman from Duluth, Georgia. It is not clear from the news report if the driver of the Ford was injured. This driver was not identified.
The Newnan Times-Herald further reports that the driver of the Chevy was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with unknown injuries. This driver was also not identified. The accident is still under investigation by Troopers with Georgia State Patrol.
