Man Killed in Run-Off-The-Road Accident in Columbia County, Georgia

May 01, 2019

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report posted at wrdw.com, a man was killed in a run-off-the-road accident in Columbia County, Georgia. It does not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the collision. One other person riding in the vehicle was injured and hospitalized, according to the news report.*

The accident happened on the afternoon of Sunday, April 28, on Owens Road in Columbia County. Authorities and WRDW report that at about 2:20 p.m. that day, a Ford F-150 Raptor was traveling on Owens Road approaching Washington Road. The driver of the Ford came to a curve in the roadway and failed to navigate the curve.

Investigators say the driver lost control and traveled off the side of the roadway. The Ford then crashed into a ditch. The cause of the accident is not completely clear, but WRDW says that investigators believe the driver of the Ford was speeding before the collision took place. No other vehicles appear to have been involved.

WRDW reports that the driver of the Ford was ejected from the vehicle during impact, and he died of his injuries. The Columbia County Coroner’s Office identified him as a 47-year-old man. The man’s city of residence was not reported. The report did not say whether he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

WRDW further reports that one other person was injured in the accident and transported to a local hospital for treatment. This person was not identified. The news report stated that his or her injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
