Multi-Vehicle Wreck Injures Two in Lowndes County, Georgia
LOWNDES COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story reported online at valdostatoday.com, a multi-vehicle wreck injured two people in Lowndes County, Georgia. The wreck reportedly involved two tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. One of the injured persons had to be airlifted to a hospital, according to the report.*
The wreck occurred shortly after midnight on April 25 on Interstate 75 in Lowndes County. Georgia State Patrol and Valdosta Today report that Troopers responded to a call about a vehicle wreck on I-75 South at about 12:15 a.m. that day. They went to the scene of the accident, which occurred near mile marker 30 in Lowndes County, and found four vehicles had been involved.
Troopers said that an International tractor-trailer had been headed south on the interstate and crashed into the back of a southbound Kia Soul. The tractor-trailer continued forward after the collision and rear-ended a Honda Fit. The tractor-trailer then started to turn onto its side and struck the back of another tractor-trailer, a Freightliner.
At this time, it is unclear what caused the initial crash between the International truck and the Kia. It appears the accident occurred near a construction zone where crews were working on an overpass. Valdosta Today reports that the driver of the International tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries, and a medical helicopter flew him or her to Tallahassee Memorial.
In addition, Valdosta Today states that the driver of the Honda was also injured and taken by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center. Current medical conditions were not reported. According to the report, the drivers of the Kia and the Freightliner were not injured. None of the people involved has been identified.
