Driver Hits Parked Car During Police Chase in Savannah, Georgia
SAVANNAH, GA. – According to an online news report posted at wtoc.com, a driver hit a parked car during a police chase through Savannah, Georgia. Officers said they tried to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver fled. It is not clear from the news report if anyone was injured during the collision.*
Georgia State Patrol reports that Troopers placed a man in custody after he was speeding through downtown Savannah with officers in pursuit. This occurred on April 26 on Broughton Street. A Trooper observed the vehicle traveling with its headlights off on Montgomery Street. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away.
Authorities say the driver fled from the Trooper on Montgomery Street and attempted to turn onto Broughton Street. In making the turn, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a car parked on the roadway. After impact, the suspect’s vehicle veered to the other side of the road, where it nearly crashed into the Courthouse Annex.
Troopers say the vehicle continued forward and came to a final rest outside of a bar on Broughton Street. The driver then reportedly exited the vehicle and attempted to run from officers on foot. WTOC says he ran a couple blocks toward Franklin Square before being apprehended by authorities.
WTOC reports Troopers placed the suspect under arrest, and they anticipated filing charges of driving under the influence. Arresting officers reportedly believed the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident. The man was not identified, and it is not clear from the report if he or anyone else was injured.
