Multiple People Killed in Semi-Truck Crash in Lakewood, Colorado

May 03, 2019

LAKEWOOD, CO. – According to an online news report posted by, multiple people were killed in a semi-truck crash that occurred in Lakewood, Colorado. The crash took place on Interstate 70 outside of Denver, Colorado, when a semi-truck carrying lumber crashed into the back of several vehicles.*

The accident occurred on the afternoon of April 25 on I-70 East in Lakewood. Authorities say traffic on the interstate was backed up due to rush hour commuting and a prior vehicle accident. An eastbound semi-truck that was carrying a load of lumber failed to slow for traffic ahead and ended up slamming into the back of several vehicles.

The impact started a chain reaction of collisions and resulted in a large fire. Officials have confirmed that a total of 28 vehicles were involved, including three other semi-trucks. Police officers have not yet identified the potential cause of the accident. A spokesperson for the Lakewood Police Department said officers were not releasing detailed information at this time.

CNN reports that police have stated multiple people were killed in the crash, but officers did not provide an exact number of fatalities. At least six other people involved in the crash sustained injuries, according to police, and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. None of the victims has been identified.

CNN also reports that the driver of the first semi-truck, who has not been identified, was not seriously injured in the accident. He was transported to a medical facility for treatment, after which CNN says he will be taken into custody on charges of vehicular homicide.

Interstate 70 was shut down following the accident, and parts of I-70 remained blocked the following day.
