Pedestrian Injured in Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Davis Islands, Florida

DAVIS ISLANDS, FL. – According to a news story published online at patch.com, a pedestrian was injured in what authorities believe was a DUI hit-and-run crash on Davis Islands, Florida. Police say the driver left the scene of the accident and was later arrested for driving under the influence, among other crimes.*  

The accident occurred during the evening on April 23 on East Davis Boulevard on Davis Islands. The Tampa Police Department and Patch report that at about 8:50 p.m. that day, a pedestrian was attempting to cross East Davis Boulevard and was walking eastbound across the road. Officers say he was then hit by a vehicle that was traveling north on East Davis Boulevard near Biscayne Avenue. 

The make and model of the vehicle were not provided in the report from Patch. It is not clear what caused the accident or what events led to the accident. Officers did not say whether the pedestrian was inside of a crosswalk or whether he had the right-of-way. After the collision, officers say the driver went around the victim on the road and continued north.

Police report that a witness saw the collision and followed the driver to the area of Nebraska Avenue and 17th Street. The witness provided a license plate number to police, and police were able to locate the vehicle and arrest the driver. Patch reports that the driver, a 34-year-old woman from Tampa, was charged with driving under the influence with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury.

The victim, who has not been identified, was transported by ambulance to Tampa General Hospital. His current medical condition is not known.
