Bicyclist Killed During Chain-Reaction Vehicle Wreck in Vero Beach, Florida
VERO BEACH, FL. – According to an online news story reported at cbs12.com, a bicyclist was killed during a chain-reaction vehicle wreck in Indian River County, Florida. One other person sustained serious injuries. Officials investigating the case have identified both the injured person and the bicyclist who died in the crash.*
The incident reportedly occurred sometime on April 14 and was reported by CBS 12 on April 24. The chain-reaction collision happened in Indian River County and involved three vehicles and the bicycle. Florida Highway Patrol and CBS 12 report that an SUV was traveling on State Road 60 and tried to pass a car in front of it near 50th Avenue.
Troopers say that during the attempted pass, the SUV and car somehow collided, after which the SUV veered off the roadway. The SUV then hit a bicycle and crashed into another vehicle before coming to a stop. Authorities did not immediately say what caused the crash or why the SUV and car initially collided.
CBS 12 reports that the bicyclist sustained serious injuries in the crash and did not survive. He was identified as a 46-year-old man from Vero Beach, Florida.
CBS 12 also reports that the driver of the SUV was injured in the accident. She was identified as a 51-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, Florida. Her injuries were described as serious. It is not clear if anyone was riding in the vehicle with her. It is also not clear from the CBS 12 report if anyone in the other two vehicles was injured.
Florida Highway Patrol said that a standard alcohol analysis was being performed, and charges were pending.
