One Killed, One Airlifted After Motorcycle Accident in Covington, Georgia
COVINGTON, GA. – According to an online news story published at covnews.com, one person was killed and another was airlifted to a hospital after a motorcycle accident that took place in Covington, Georgia. The two victims were reportedly both traveling on motorcycles and both crashed into a vehicle that was stopped on a roadway.*
The Covington News reports that Georgia State Patrol and the Newton County Coroner’s Office are confirming one person was killed in an accident that occurred on the evening of April 22. According to the report, two motorcycles were headed north on Flat Shoals Road in Covington at about 8 p.m. that day.
Officials say that a 2005 Acura TSX pulled into the roadway and attempted to enter the southbound lanes of Flat Shoals Road. The Acura reportedly stopped in the road, and both of the motorcycles crashed into the left side of the car. It is unclear at this time why the Acura driver was stopped in the road and in the path of the two motorcycles.
Both motorcyclists were ejected from their bikes in the crash, according to the report. The Covington News reports that one of the motorcyclists sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Newton County Coroner’s Office. He was identified as a 23-year-old man from Rutledge, Georgia.
The Covington News further reports that the other motorcyclist was seriously injured and flown by medical helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center. He was identified as a 26-year-old man from Conyers, Georgia.
The Acura driver was not identified, and it is not clear if he or she was injured. Troopers say charges are pending.
