Men from North Carolina, Florida Flee Scene After New York Vehicle Crash
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY. – According to an online news report posted at westchester.news12.com, a man from North Carolina and a man from Florida are accused of fleeing the scene of a vehicle wreck that occurred in New York. Police officers report that the men ran from the scene of two accidents in Rockland County, New York.*
The Clarkstown Police Department reports that on the morning of April 23, a Chevrolet pickup truck (model not reported) with license plates from Illinois collided with another vehicle on Route 59 in Central Nyack, New York. This occurred at approximately 8 a.m., near the Shell station.
According to the news report, a police officer observed this accident and saw the pickup truck leave the scene without stopping. The officer followed the pickup truck, and the truck ended up rolling near the Palisades Mall. Following the rollover accident, police say the two men in the pickup left the scene on foot.
It is unclear at this time what caused either of these accidents. Officers did not immediately provide details about the factors involved in the collisions. The news report states that police pursued the two men from the truck and were able to locate them.
The driver of the truck, identified as a 32-year-old man from North Carolina, was apprehended while hiding from police in the mall parking lot. Police said he had a head injury, and emergency responders took him to Westchester Medical Center. News 12 reports he has been charged with driving while intoxicated.
The passenger from the truck, identified as a 61-year-old man from Florida, was found in the wooded area behind the mall. It is not clear what charges, if any, he faces.
