Two-Vehicle Accident Leads to One Fatality in Lancaster County, South Carolina
LANCASTER COUNTY, SC. – According to a news report published online at newsobserver.com, a two-vehicle accident led to one fatality in Lancaster County, South Carolina. The victim of the accident has been identified, but investigators have not released information about the official cause of the collision.*
The accident took place in the afternoon on April 19 on South Carolina Highway 5 in Lancaster County. South Carolina Highway Patrol and The News and Observer reports that at about 3:30 p.m. that day, a van and a truck somehow collided at the intersection of S.C. 5 and Steel Hill Road. This is near the line between Lancaster County and York County, South Carolina.
It is not yet clear how the accident happened or in what way the accident occurred. The news report says that officials from Lancaster Emergency Management and Lancaster Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, along with Troopers. The News and Observer states that one man was killed in the collision.
It is unclear which vehicle the man was riding in when the crash happened. He was identified as a 52-year-old man from Fort Lawn, South Carolina. It was not clear from the report whether anyone else was injured. No one else involved in the accident was identified.
Following the accident, traffic was closed down for a period of time in both directions of S.C. 5. A detour was set up to divert motorists onto Steel Hill Road. It is unclear how long the roadway remained shut down.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash. The News and Observer reports that the accident occurred during a storm but that investigators had not said if the weather had contributed to the crash.
