Two-Vehicle Collision Kills Motorcyclist in Sarasota, Florida
SARASOTA, FL. – According to a news story reported online by mysuncoast.com, a two-vehicle collision killed a motorcyclist in Sarasota, Florida. It appears the collision took place during the process of a left turn. Investigators working on the case are still reviewing the circumstances of the crash to determine whether charges might be filed.*
The accident occurred on the evening of April 18 on U.S. Highway 301 in Sarasota, Manatee County, Florida. Police officers and WWSB report that a motorcycle was headed northbound on U.S. 301, while a Dodge truck was traveling on County Road 675 toward the highway.
At the intersection of U.S. 301 and C.R. 675, the Dodge truck attempted to turn left into the southbound lanes of the highway. It appears the truck traveled into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, and the front of the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the truck.
WWSB says the motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet. He was identified as a man from Palmetto, Florida. His age was not included in the report. It does not appear that anyone else was riding on the motorcycle.
The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene after the accident, according to the report. He was identified as a man from Palmetto with no reported age. It is not clear if he was injured or if any passengers were riding in the truck.
Police are still investigating the accident and are working to determine what factors could have played a role in the crash. WWSB reported that officers had not yet said whether alcohol was involved or whether any charges would be filed.
