Child Hit by Vehicle, Injured in Savannah, Georgia

April 22, 2019

SAVANNAH, GA. – According to an online news report from wsav.com, a child was hit by a vehicle in Savannah, Georgia, and transported to a hospital with injuries. The circumstances of the accident are not totally clear, and the Savannah Police Department is still in the process of investigating, according to the report.*

The accident took place in the early morning on Saturday, April 22, on Victory Drive in Savannah. The Savannah Police Department and WSAV report that at approximately 6:40 a.m. that day, a 9-year-old child was walking across Victory Drive in the area of Stevens Street. Officers said the boy started across the westbound lanes of the roadway and was struck by a Hyundai Sonata in one of the eastbound lanes.

WSAV reports that two vehicles almost hit the child, and one of the vehicle drivers was able to stop in time. The Hyundai driver was not able to stop in time, the report says. It is not clear if the child was walking in a crosswalk, and police have not said whether the child or the vehicles had the right-of-way at the time of the accident.

WSAV states that the child sustained injuries in the collision, and emergency responders transported him to Memorial Medical Center. His injuries were described as serious. His current condition is not known. The WSAV report identified the boy, but his name is withheld from this story.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as a 53-year-old woman from Savannah. It does not appear that she was injured in the collision. Police officers said that speed was not believed to have been a factor in the accident.
