Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Naples, Florida
NAPLES, FL. – According to a news story reported online by nbc-2.com, a man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Naples, Florida. The crash resulted in a vehicle rollover on Interstate 75. Authorities are not yet sure about the cause of the collision but have released identifying information about the victim.*
NBC 2 reports that the accident occurred on the afternoon of April 17 on Interstate 75 in Naples. By the exit to Pine Ridge Road (Exit 107), Florida Highway Patrol says the driver of an SUV that was traveling northbound lost control of the vehicle. The SUV crashed over the median on the interstate, rolled over, and came to a stop in the shoulder of I-75 South.
Troopers have not yet determined the cause of the collision. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Authorities at the scene were not immediately sure what might have led to the driver’s loss of control, and they said a standard analysis would be performed to rule out drugs and alcohol.
NBC 2 reports that the driver of the SUV was fatally injured in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as a 68-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida. The news report did not say whether any passengers were in the SUV at the time of the collision.
Following the accident, two of the lanes on I-75 South were closed for emergency vehicles to gain access to the scene. They were reopened a short time later, but crews worked for more than four hours to clear the debris. Florida Highway Patrol is still completing its investigation.
