Woman Killed in Head-On Car Wreck in Florence County, South Carolina
FLORENCE COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story reported by wbtw.com, a woman was killed in a head-on car wreck in Florence County, South Carolina. Officials working on the case have released identifying information about the victim, but they do not yet know what caused the collision. One other person was injured in the crash.*
The crash took place in the evening on April 16 on U.S. Highway 378 in Florence County. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WBTW report that a Honda was traveling south on U.S. 378 at about 8:25 p.m. that night. In the area near Pee Dee River Bridge, by the line between Florence County and Marion County, South Carolina, the Honda crashed into a Mercedes SUV.
The report from WBTW says the collision occurred in a head-on fashion and that the Mercedes was traveling westbound. It is unclear what circumstances contributed to the wreck or how the crash happened.
WBTW reports that the driver of the Honda was critically injured and died at the scene of the accident. The Florence County Coroner’s Office identified her as a 43-year-old woman from Gresham, South Carolina.
WBTW also reports that the driver of the Mercedes sustained injuries in the wreck, and emergency crews took him to a local hospital for treatment. He was not identified, and the extent of his injuries is not known.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team are looking into the case. At the time the WBTW report was published, Troopers had not yet provided additional information about the accident.
